The friendship between Matija Čop and France Prešeren lasted seven years. It resulted in prized outcomes, which reached the very top of Slovenian literature. Čop recognised Prešern as a poet who fully corresponded to his literary views and ideas about the development of Slovenian literature. Prešeren was a poet of love lyrics, sonnets and ballads, while Čop was a critic and researcher who was well-versed in all European literature. The joint conversations undoubtedly influenced Prešeren's creativity, which reached its peak in a very short time. Čop's influence was also decisive for Prešeren's poetry in the Slovenian language.
